I am not deaf or hard of hearing, however, I am currently studying ASL. I am currently finishing up ASL1 and plan on going on to obtain a certificate and possibly become an interpreter. My career field doesn't require the class, however, I'm a current STNA for 13 years, I have recently gotten my Associates in Medical Assisting. I'm in school for my
right now, with a future goal in becoming a Physician's Assistant. I feel that learning ASL will benefit me in the means of communication in my career field. I am also teaching my kids as I learn, so they too can be fluent. My daughter has a friend that has a deaf mother, and is working hard to learn enough to be able to carry on a conversation. Since learning and reading up on Deaf culture, I am intrigued and would like to learn more about the culture and language.
