Eager to sign

This happened a very long time ago before I lost the rest of my hearing. I was shopping one day waiting in a very long line at the store. I signed to my son who was across the store, a very far way away- to go get his friend and come wait with me. A moment later the gentleman behind signed to me "How long have you been waiting", I was so excited to be able to practice my sign with some who was deaf I eagerly responded- "I had been there a long time and didn't know how long it was going to be".

Needless to say we continued to chat as we all waited patiently. So as I get up to the counter my son had just walked up and I missed what the cashier had asked me, before I could ask "what did you say", the gentleman behind my stepped up and said" She is deaf, but I sign and can help". I turned to the man and voiced "No your deaf", then we realized that our eage
ess to sign had lead us both to ASSUME, and we all know what that does, lol:D
